CNBC’s education program will focus primarily on the advancement of academic excellence for children in marginalized communities. We will provide afterschool programs for youth to supplement the inadequacy of public school education, particularly in inner-city schools and other school districts which serve disadvantaged African American children. CNBC will partner with local congregations which currently offer afterschool programs and with the Children’s Defense Fund through its Freedom Schools initiatives. We will also engage in at risk youth intervention initiatives encouraging partnerships between churches and innovative, socially responsible job-creation programs. This is an area of activism with which many of our member congregations are familiar, even if they have not all established programs of their own.
